VATICAN CITY (ITALPRESS) – Pope Leo, addressing the cardinals engaged yesterday in Consistory, during Mass in St. Peter’s Basilica, this morning, recalled: “We are not here to promote ‘agendes’ – personal or group – but to entrust our projects and inspirations to the vagueness of a discernment that overcomes us ‘how much the sky overpowers the earth’ (Is 55:9) and that can only come from the Lord”.
“Our College – he added -, although rich in so many skills and remarkable gifts, is not in fact called to be, first of all, a team of experts, but a community of faith, in which the gifts that each brings, offered to the Lord and from Him returned, produce, according to his Providence, the maximum fruit.”.
“Of course we too – the Pontiff emphasized -, in front of the ‘great crowd’ of a humanity hungry for good and peace, in a world in which satiety and hunger, abundance and misery, struggle for survival and desperate existential vacuum continue to divide and wound people, nations and communities, to the words of the Master: “You yourself give them food” (Mk 6:37), we can feel like the disciples: inadequate and without means. Jesus, however, returns to tell us: “How many bread do you have? Go see” (Mk 6:38), and we can do this together. We will not always be able to find immediate solutions to the problems we face. Always, however, in every place and circumstance, we can help each other – and in particular help the Pope – to find the “five breads and two fishes” that Providence never fails where its children ask for help; and to welcome them, deliver them, receive them and distribute them, enriched with the blessing of God and the faith and love of all, so that no one misses the necessary (cf. Mk 6:42)”.
