Usa, Vance attacks the media on Minneapolis and announces new actions against federal fraud

WASHINGTON (USA) (ITALPRESS) – US Vice President JD Vance defended with harsh tones, at today’s press conference in the White House briefing room, the administration line on the episode in Minneapolis, where a federal agent of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) shot a car driver during an operation. Vance openly attacked those who defined the “business media”, accusing them of having told the story in a distorted manner and of not having properly represented the gravity of what happened.

“This was an attack on law and order. This was an attack on the American people,” said the vice president, claiming that many information bodies did not frame the episode in these terms. According to Vance, the overall media coverage of the story “was an absolute shame” and contributes to creating a climate that threatens the security of law enforcement forces committed on the territory.

During his statements, Vance insisted that the ongoing federal operation in Minneapolis was legitimate and that the agent’s intervention took place in a context of strong tension. He reiterated the full support of the administration to federal agents and law enforcement, denouncing what he defined as a partial and ideological media narrative, capable – in his own words – of feeding hostility and distrust to those who are called to enforce the law.

The Vice-President also linked the episode to a wider political and cultural battle, claiming that a part of information and opposition is systematically trying to delegitimate federal action on internal security and immigration. Vance said that the White House will not be back in the face of criticism and will continue to support a rigorous application of laws, defining the defence of public order an absolute priority of administration.

Ample space has also been dedicated to fraud in government assistance programmes. Vance has announced that in the coming days a new assistant general prosecutor will be appointed with the specific task of pursuing abuses and irregularities related to the use of federal funds, with particular attention to childhood care programs finished in the spotlight in Minnesota.

The vice president explained that the new attorney will initially focus his business in Minnesota, but he will have a national mandate. The objective, he stressed, is to strengthen controls and ensure that public resources are used correctly. Vance added that the majority leader in the Senate, John Thune, would provide him with a quick confirmation path for his appointment.

“This is the person who will make sure that we stop defrauding the American people,” Vance said, pointing out the administration’s will to intervene decisively against any form of abuse of assistance programmes.

The press conference took place in a strongly polarized political climate, with the Minneapolis episode that continues to provoke reactions and controversies at national level. Vance’s words confirm the White House’s strategy to address the story not only as a fact of news, but as part of a wider confrontation on security, immigration, media role and federal resource management.
