ROMA (ITALPRESS) – In December, the industrial vehicle market recorded an increase of 14.6%, with 2.107 registrations compared to 1.838 of 2024. The segment of heavy vehicles with a mass equal to or greater than 16 t contributes with a surplus of 15.8% on a monthly basis.
Lightweight vehicles also show a remarkable increase of 93.7%, while mass vehicles between 6.01 and 15.99 t suffer a contraction of 6.4%. In the course of the twelve months of 2025, the consolidated figure marks a deficit of 2.6%, with over 700 units registered less than 2024 (from 28.491 to 27.755 registrations).
Between weight bands, light vehicles increase by 27.2%, while medium and heavy vehicles close with negative sign, respectively at -11.1% and -2,6%. The trend of heavy vehicles with a mass of 16 tonnes is contrasting in 2025, with the wagons growing by 2.8% and the road tractors breaking by 6.4%.
“Despite the sustained growth of the registrations in the last four months of 2025, the trend was not enough to avoid a closing of the year in negative, especially in the section of the tractors that recorded a significant decrease compared to last year. We trust that the 2026 signs a real change of course, thanks to the use of structural resources aimed at the renewal of the vehicular park, long requested by UNRAE and now finally previewed with the Extraordinary Fund of 590 million euros destined to encourage the most advanced vehicles on the technological and environmental level. In this regard, we appreciate the open and constructive dialogue initiated with the Ministry of Transport, together with the other sectoral associations, to define effective operating methods of use of resources”, comments the President of the Section Industrial Vehicles of UNRAE, Giovanni Dattoli. “We value positively – adds Dattoli – also the refinancing of instruments such as the New Sabatini and hyper-mortization, provided by the new Law of Budget, which will offer concrete support to the enterprises of road haulage. It remains, however, essential to clarify with promptness the methods of employment of the 19 million already allocated by the MIT for the decarbonization of the circulating park, resources that must be integrated with the Extraordinary Fund”.
“For the new year we hope, finally, that the incentive measures will be accompanied by the necessary facilities to use the means, already provided by European standards and applied in different Member States, so as to allow a reduction of the total cost of ownership of the vehicles of new generation. Only by means of tangible conditions will it be possible to accelerate the transition to a really sustainable heavy transport,” says President Dattoli.
