PALERMO (ITALPRESS) – The airline Wizz Air and Gesap, the international airport management company Falcone Borsellino in Palermo, announce a new route between the Sicilian capital and Belgrade.
“The new link – read in a note – represents a strategic consolidation of the presence of Wizz Air in the Sicilian capital and a concrete response to the growing demand for connectivity between the island and the Balkans. The partnership with Gesap is enriched by a new key destination, opening a direct door to the capital of Serbia, a growing economic and cultural centre.”.
Tickets are already on sale on wizzair.com and on the WIZZ mobile app, from 24,99 euro. All flights will be operated with modern Airbus A321neo aircraft, known for their comfort, low noise and reduced emissions. The connection will be guaranteed by three weekly frequencies, every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, allowing an ideal flexibility for both leisure and business trips.
“The link between Palermo and Belgrade – notes the note – unites two of the richest cities in history in Europe. If, on the one hand, Serbian passengers will discover the Arab-Norman heritage and the beaches of Sicily, on the other, Sicilian travellers will have direct access to the “White City”, a dynamic heart of the Balkans, famous for its vibrant nightlife and the thousand-year fortress of Kalemegdan. A strategic bridge that promotes cultural tourism and the growth of trade between the Mediterranean and Eastern Europe”.
“As already mentioned in the past, we strongly believe in the Palermo airport and we want to continue to grow in Falcone Borsellino airport. With the announcement of the Palermo-Belgrade route, we continue our expansion plan in the port supported by our partnership with Gesap and the renewed affection of our Palermo passengers – said Salvatore Gabriele Imperiale, Corporate Communications Manager of Wizz Air -. After the success of flights to Warsaw and Bratislava, this new link to Serbia confirms that Palermo is of increasing importance in our growth strategy in Italy. We want to continue to offer Sicilian passengers unique destinations and affordable rates, while at the same time promoting the arrival of new international tourist flows in Sicily and in the magnificent Palermo”.
“The opening of the Palermo Belgrade route is a further step in the positioning of the Falcone Borsellino airport as an international Mediterranean platform. It is not only a new link, but an investment on the quality of the network, on the seasonalization of flows and on the economic activity of the territory – said Gianfranco Battisti, CEO of Gesap -. The collaboration with Wizz Air confirms the ability of the airport to intercept dynamic and growing markets, strengthening the role of Palermo in European networks of tourism and business”.
“The introduction of the new flight to Belgrade – punctualizes the note – is crucial not only for the development strategy of the Falcone Borsellino International Airport but the entire region, which is confirmed as a vital connection platform in the Mediterranean. These new routes not only enrich the offer for traditional leisure traffic, but also want to reach the high-potential tourist segments, contributing significantly to the seasonalization of flows. At the same time, new and concrete opportunities for commercial and business interchange are opened, facilitating relations between Sicilian companies and a European area in strong economic expansion.”.
With these new destinations, international connections managed by Wizz Air in Sicily go up to 21. The airline, in fact, operates from the airports of Palermo, Catania and Comiso offering 21 destinations to 12 countries.
From Falcone and Borsellino currently Wizz Air operates 2 routes to Bratislava – 4 times a week, Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday – and Warsaw Modlin – 3 times a week, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday – with fares starting at €19.99. With these two connections the company has already made available to the Sicilian passengers over 167 thousand places for the winter season 2025.
