From the EU Commission a financial support package to Ukraine, loan from 90 billion euros

BRUSSELS (BELGIUM) (ITALPRESS) – The European Commission today adopted a series of legislative proposals to ensure continuous financial support for Ukraine in 2026 and 2027. “This marks a significant stage in strong EU support for the country’s defence against Russia’s aggression war,” reads in a note.

The package of measures includes a new proposal establishing a support loan for Ukraine (on the basis of Article 212 TFEU) for an amount of EUR 90 billion; a new proposal to amend the instrument for Ukraine (based on Article 212 TFEU), as one of the means to provide financial assistance to Ukraine; a new proposal to amend the regulation on the multiannual financial framework (based on Article 312 of the TFEU) to allow the loan to Ukraine under the EU budget’s ‘manage margin’. In December the European Council agreed to provide EUR 90 billion of decisive support for the military and financial needs of Ukraine over the next two years. This agreement reaffirms “the firm commitment of the European Union to support Ukraine.”.
