‘A tree for health’ returns, Schillaci “Prevention essential”

ROME (ITALPRESS) – Enhancing the concept of “one health”: one health. This is where the national project “One tree for health” starts, an initiative carried out by Fadoi, the Scientific Society of Internal Medicine, in collaboration with the Carabinieri of the Biodiversity Protection Command. The initiative, now in its second year, will see another donation and planting of 30 young trees in Italian hospitals by the Carabinieri by 2024. “Fundamental is primary prevention, by continuing to promote the adoption of correct lifestyles many diseases are predictable, also by acting on risk factors, healthy lifestyles help to avoid up to 40 percent of new diagnoses of neoplasia and decrease cardiovascular vascular diseases that represent, in Italy, the leading cause of death,” said Health Minister Orazio Schillaci, “but healthy environments also help us to counteract the onset of serious diseases, our health is closely linked to those of other species, if the ecosystem around us falls ill we all pay a price in terms of life expectancy, health costs, individual and collective well-being.The event is part of the “A Tree for the Future” project implemented by the Carabinieri Command for the Protection of Biodiversity in collaboration with the Ministry of the Environment. Each plant will be able to be geolocated by photographing a special tag and it will be possible to track its growth on a website, also monitoring carbon dioxide (CO2) savings in real time.”We are hosting an initiative that is particularly close to our hearts, of great value, we believe in a very strong connection between human health and the environment in which we work,” stressed Daniele Piacentini, general director of the Gemelli Isola Tiberina Hospital, “this is a place where care has always been focused with great attention also to the protection of the environment and places, an attention that I know focuses on special care to the environments in which patients are, in a place that has 500 years of history. The main event was held at the “Isola Tiberina – Gemelli Isola” Hospital and at the same time in 30 Italian hospitals where an equal number of trees will be planted. During the initiative, young trees were donated to two schoolchildren to raise awareness of environmental protection education. “It is now known to all how forests are a natural resource, a source of irreplaceable goods and services for humanity and the biosphere with beneficial effects whose value is difficult to define – the words of Danilo Mostacchi, commander of the Carabinieri for the Protection of Biodiversity -. In recent decades, population growth, increased pollution, and pandemics have contributed to an increasing appreciation of the benefits of forests, and many forests have become true lesson sites.”Testimonial of the event Luigi Busà, Karate Champion and 2020 Olympics Gold Medalist: “I am proud that the Carabinieri are showing themselves sensitive to these initiatives, prevention is very important we cannot act only after a fait accompli. “The national project included the donation and planting (after the 30 in 2023) in 32 Italian Hospitals of as many young trees by the Carabinieri for the Protection of Biodiversity. The total duration of the project will be 3 years. “As Fadoi,” concluded the president of the scientific society, Francesco Dentali, “our institutional goals include improving and defining care pathways and health education initiatives. We believe it is essential to develop greater awareness of the holistic One Health approach according to which the health of people and the health of the ecosystem are inextricably linked and mutually influence each other.”
