Abodi “Civil Service a choice of defending values of peace and solidarity. In 25 years over 2 million young people have applied”

ROMA (ITALPRESS) – “Today we remember 25 years from the establishment of the National Civil Service on a voluntary basis, open for the first time in Italy to women, thanks to the law 64 promulgated in 2001. Since that year there have been over 2 million young people, women and men from 18 to 28 years, who have applied for candidacy, and over 800 thousand those who have actually done so, to which will be added the more than 66 thousand volunteer operators previewed by the call that is currently in progress”. Thus the Minister for Sport and Youth, with delegation to the Universal Civil Service, Andrea Abodi. “The Civil Service in Italy has a long history that begins in 1972 and has its roots in a choice of defending the values of peace and solidarity. In these years he has contributed to form the consciences and civic sense of several generations, helping them in the growth and development of skills, useful both at human and professional level. The reform of 10 years ago, which made it ‘universal’, then allowed to expand this opportunity of active citizenship also to foreigners regularly resident in Italy and to open themselves to a greater inclusion of boys and girls who live in condition of social discomfort, low schooling or with disabilities” adds.

“The government chaired by Giorgia Meloni has recognized a 15% reserve of places in public competitions for non-directional positions to those who have performed civil service, invested in its economic stabilization and in the valorisation of professional skills, wanted to make it increasingly a concrete place of protagonism for young people, where to increase their full awareness of the value and meanings of citizenship, in the dimension of rights and duties, and where to grow opportunities. On the basis of these assumptions, with the bill of delegation in the matter of policies for young people and Universal Civil Service, which I presented in the Council of Ministers and is about to begin its parliamentary path, we aim to innovate this institution of the Republic, simplifying the procedures and making this instrument of youth participation ever more effective”, concludes Abodi.
