ROME (ITALPRESS) – The Minister for Sport and Youth, Andrea Abodi, met by video conference with the Minister for Sport, Media, Civil Society and Youth of the United Kingdom, Stephanie Peacock. This first meeting provided an opportunity to discuss issues related to sports in the two nations, to share objectives and strategies to be developed jointly, while taking into account the differences in their respective contexts.
Several topics were addressed by the two ministers, including the crucial role of sports in schools and society, the reform of the football system, and the establishment of independent monitoring bodies. Part of the discussion between the two ministers was devoted to strategies and practices to counter criminal infiltration in sports, illegal sports betting and audiovisual piracy, which require coordinated actions and international collaboration. Ministers Abodi and Peacock,” reads a note, “also agreed on the importance of sports as an instrument of diplomacy and promotion of dialogue between nations, all the more so in this delicate and conflictual phase of international relations.
Minister Abodi then briefed his British colleague on the punctual progress of the organization of the Milan Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics and Paralympics, also in view of the significant interest shown by fans of winter sports and ice disciplines in the United Kingdom, who are at the top of the ticket purchasing list for next year’s big event. The two ministers agreed on the opportunity to further deepen and consolidate bilateral collaboration, including through the exchange of best practices and know-how to put sports at the center of national policies, with the aim of combating sedentariness and discomfort, starting with youth, and promoting individual and social well-being.
