The Convention establishes the start of a structured and long-term collaboration between Italian administrations engaged in international health cooperation, with a priority focus on Africa in the Mattei plan, to contribute to the strengthening of health systems in partner countries, in accordance with Agenda 2030 and with the priorities of Italian development cooperation.

“With this framework agreement – says Minister Schillaci – we strengthen Italy’s contribution to global health and the fight against inequalities. Thanks to structured collaboration we can set up a shared vision based on equity, inclusion and universalism of services. In particular, the INMP, as a body supervised by the Ministry of Health, is a fundamental operational joint for us that allows us to extend and make our international projection even more incisive, bringing abroad highly specialized skills in the protection of the most vulnerable populations. Strengthening health systems means protecting and promoting health as a universal right.”.

For Deputy Minister Cirielli, “this convention, in addition to sanctioning a growing collaboration between the Parties involved, is a concrete intervention aimed at strengthening health systems, prevention and access to care in the most vulnerable partner countries”. “Looking at the future, there is the hope to be able to further consolidate and expand this collaboration, enhancing the skills, resources and experiences that Italy can offer.”.

The agreement will facilitate the implementation by INMP of activities in the following priority areas: improvement of access to social services; training of health personnel; support for the organization of socio-sanitary services with an aim of equity; dissemination of good practices of inclusion and transcultural medicine; applied research and epidemiological data collection; interventions against poverty diseases. One of the pillars of the agreement is the strengthening of operational coordination between the parties. This model of collaboration, of renewable five-year duration, will allow to maximize the impact, favoring synergies between institutions and reducing overlaps, in full coherence with the strategic addresses of Italian cooperation.
