Alfa Romeo GTA Wins “Motor Klassik Award”

TURIN (ITALPRESS) – Almost exactly 60 years after its first success on the track, the Alfa Romeo GTA is celebrating another victory: the iconic coupe, which in April 1965 crossed the finish line first at the “1000 Kilometers of Monza,” is among the winners of the “Motor Klassik Awards 2025.” Readers of the renowned classic car magazine, published since 1984, chose the Alfa Romeo GTA as their favorite in the competition’s “Italian Classics” category. More than 17,000 readers participated in the 2025 edition of the annual “Motor Klassik Award” contest by casting their votes in 20 categories including the “Classici Italiani” category, where the Alfa Romeo GTA beat out such emblazoned competitors as Ferrari, Maserati and Lamborghini. Famous for its light alloy bodywork, the GTA received 37.6 percent of the vote, continuing Alfa Romeo’s string of successes at the “Motor Klassik Award.” More recently, in 2023, the 1980s Alfa Romeo GTV6 received the prestigious award. Introduced in 1965, the Alfa Romeo GTA was based on the coupe version of the Giulia. However, instead of a steel body, it was built almost entirely of light alloy. Designed as an entry-level motorsport vehicle, the two-door car weighed only 745 kilograms. Its 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine, with twin overhead camshafts and dual ignition per cylinder, was among the most advanced powerplants of its era.
