‘An enterprise not easy,’ Aurora Foundation’s book on social impact entrepreneurship

MILAN (ITALPRESS) – An analysis of the dynamics of social impact entrepreneurship in sub-Saharan Africa and the characteristics of the micro, small and medium-sized enterprise (MSME) sector on the continent. The book “An Enterprise Not Easy”-promoted by Fondazione Aurora, the nonprofit organization that, within the framework of the UN 2030 – AU 2063 Agendas and inclusive socio-economic development goals, supports young Africans in consolidating entrepreneurship initiatives with significant social impact in their communities-highlights the crucial role of international cooperation, the private sector and the Third Sector in supporting the development of sustainable entrepreneurial ecosystems.

Discussing these issues during the book presentation in Milan were the authors Marta Sachy, director of Aurora Foundation, Marco Riccardo Rusconi, director Italian Development Cooperation Agency, Abdel-Nasser Daoud Kinefour, senior program officer of African Union Development Agency-New Partnership for Africa’s Development, Mario Molteni, managing director of E4impact; Samir de Sousa, CEO of Serviços Ambientais da Beira – SABE (Mozambique); Arsène Héma, CEO of InVis (Burkina Faso); Luca Turello, Agronomist and Project Manager of illycaffè; and Bezawit Fantu, Researcher (Ethiopia).

The book focuses on four key countries-Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, Kenya, and Mozambique-and includes entrepreneurial, institutional, and civil society testimonies and case studies. The authors highlight how limited access to finance, infrastructure fragilities and regulatory barriers are among the main obstacles to business growth, but also show strategies and successful models for overcoming them.

Through contributions from experts, institutional representatives and African entrepreneurs, this volume offers reflections on strengthening support for social impact enterprises, fostering the development of international collaboration networks and promoting a more inclusive and participatory approach to economic cooperation between Africa and Italy.

Therefore, Aurora Foundation is committed to promoting the scaling up of African social impact enterprises with innovative capabilities and territorial relationships. It works through applied research to improve products and services, provides technical assistance and operating funds for capital endowment, and works to activate strategic partnerships to bring these business ventures into the global value chain.
