MILANO (ITALPRESS) – The 2025 delivers a double-speed Italian market to the two motor wheels. The annual data of the registrations released today exclusively by Confindustria ANCMA (National Association of Motorcycle Accessories) outline an articulated scenario: strong advanced scooters, growing 5.5%, and contraction of motorcycles, which close the year with a decrease of 19.2%. Overall, the moped market, scooters and motorcycles recorded a bending of 7.5% compared to 2024. A result that reflects contrasting dynamics and is also read in a broader perspective. The comparison with 2023 – year devoid of distortive effects – in fact returns a balance overall positive of +2.2%, with scooters in strong progress (+13.53%) and motorbike still in negative territory (-7.5%).
“On 2025 – explains ANCMA’s president, Mariano Roman – have significantly affected the effects of the surplus of end-of-the-range registrations recorded at the end of 2024, linked to the entry into force of the Euro 5+ standard. However, the decrease in motion seems less attributable to an episodic phenomenon: it will be necessary to deepen carefully dynamics and causes in the first months of the new year”.
“As well as the distortions related to Euro 5+ and geopolitical and macroeconomic conditions that have influenced consumer confidence – continues Roman – the two wheels confirm their central role in leisure, tourism and sports choices. And the success of scooters also shows how these vehicles represent a concrete, usable and efficient response to the needs of sustainable urban mobility. In the overall picture there is also a discrete dynamism of the use”.
The last month of the year was evidently affected by the end effect of the Euro 5 series which, in December 2024, had led to the registration of 373.344 units, the best result since 2011. The comparison is therefore strongly penalised and the analysis of the monthly data must therefore take account of this distortional effect. In December 2025 the market recorded a decrease of 62.10% with 11.213 units sold. The mopeds mark a contraction of 74,21% (774 units), the scooters back of 39,91% (5,906 units), while the bikes give up 72,95%, stopping at 4.533 registrations.
The annual cumulative data, although conditioned by the dynamics of the end of the series, offers a more representative picture of the trend of the sector. The 2025 closes with 345,287 registered vehicles and a total bending of 7.52%. In detail, cyclomotors lose almost one third of the market (-31.93%) with 13.764 units. The scooters instead confirm the true engine of the question, closing in positive with a +5,57% and 197.043 registrations. Decided the slowdown of the motorcycle, which record a decrease of 19,22% with 134.480 registered units. The market of the two electric wheels closes 2025 in negative territory, with a bending of 15,82% and 8,561 vehicles registered. Electric cyclomotors are weighing more, down 27.22% (2.994 units). Less marked contraction of electric scooters, which lose 13,95% and are attested to 4,850 units. I note less also for the quadricycle market, which closes the year with a decrease of 16,93% and 16.964 vehicles sold. However, the food analysis shows a clear divergence: thermal motorization models, penalized by the dynamics of end series, halved the volumes (-46%, 3.854 units), while the electric quadricycles manage to contain the losses (-1.32%, 13.110 units), also thanks to the incentives activated last spring.
