CALTANISSETTA (ITALPRESS) – Maxi antimafia operation at dawn in the Nisseno, where about 200 Carabinieri of the Provincial Command of Caltanissetta, with the support of the cynofile units, of the Cacciatori Squadron of Sicily and of the 9th Helicopters, performed an order of cautious custody issued by the GIP of the Court of Caltanissetta against 35 people. 32 inquiries were placed in prison, while another 3 were placed under house arrest. Investigations are deemed to be responsible for mafia association, extortion, illicit competition and drug trafficking.
The investigation, coordinated by the Antimafia District Direction of the Procura di Caltanissetta, has brought out serious evidence of the infiltration of the Mafia family of Niscemi in the field of the collection of exhausted vegetable oils. According to the investigators, the section would have been in fact monopolized through agreements imposed with intimidating modes to enterprises in the field, found colluse and now subjected to preventive seizure.
The total value of the seized companies exceeds 6 million euros. At the same time, investigative activities have documented the existence of an articulated network of cocaine and marijuana, organized according to mafia logic.
The group would have imposed a system of “authorizations” for retail sale in the territory of Niscemi, claiming in exchange sums of money or the operational availability of dealers. Inquirents have reconstructed over 200 episodes of drug disposal, outlining a framework of capillary criminal control over the territory and the local economic fabric.
