At Cagliari the salvation clash, Monza increasingly last

CAGLIARI (ITALPRESS) – Cagliari takes a big step toward salvation, Monza on the other hand is getting closer to relegation. The Sardinians overwhelm the Brianzoli 3-0 in the match at the Unipol Domus valid for the 30th day of the 2024/2025 Serie A championship: goals scored by Nicolas Viola, Gianluca Gaetano and Zito Luvumbo decide.

A few minutes into the challenge, Piccoli had to momentarily leave the field due to a flexor problem, but to the alarm he returned immediately as the striker returned to the field. At 7′ the hosts go within a step of the lead with a header by Viola, who, on an assist from Zortea, does not hit the goal mirror. Five minutes later Mota, served by Castrovilli, kicks with his left foot but sins of inaccuracy. On 20′ Turati takes a big risk with a less than perfect exit, but the match director spots Piccoli’s foul on the goalkeeper, who, after medical treatment gets back on his feet. Monza’s first shot toward the goal came in 37′ with Bianco, but he kicked too centrally and favored Caprile’s catch. At the end of one minute of recovery time, the two teams return to the locker room on the 0-0 scoreline.

At the beginning of the second half, Cagliari struck immediately by signing the lead goal at 49′ with Nicolas Viola who, on Augello’s cross, found the winning deflection with his header. Coach Alessandro Nesta tries to shake up his team through substitutions and on the other side Davide Nicola also brings in fresh forces. At 71′ Luvumbo lets off a cross-shot that puts Turati in trouble, who is forced into overtime to foil the threat. Not even time to reorganize ideas for the red-and-whites, that at 73′ the red-and-whites double with a splendid free kick by Gianluca Gaetano. In the final, the Brianzoli made a few vain attempts to reopen the contest, but risked conceding the third goal: Pavoletti first wasted a resounding chance under goal and then hit the crossbar. In the midst of the recovery, the hosts dropped the trio with Zito Luvumbo, who capitalized to the fullest on a masterful counterattack.

By virtue of this success, Cagliari hooks Verona in 14th place with 29 points, while Monza remains last at 15 points. In the next round, the Sardinians will be engaged in the Castellani away match against Empoli on Sunday, April 6 at 3 p.m., while the Lombardi will play Saturday at 3 p.m. at home against Como.
