At Italian Embassy in Abu Dhabi meeting on energy cooperation in Africa.

ABU DHABI (EMIRATES ARAB) (ITALPRESS) – The Embassy of Italy in Abu Dhabi, in collaboration with IRENA, the International Renewable Energy Agency, organized a meeting dedicated to energy cooperation with the African continent, entitled “Africa: crossroad of the energy transition.” The event was attended by ambassadors and permanent representatives to IRENA, particularly from African countries. It was an opportunity to present the Mattei Plan and opportunities for collaboration with Africa in the renewable energy sector to the diplomatic community. Speakers included IRENA’s Director General, Francesco La Camera, the Deputy National Coordinator of the Mission Structure for the Implementation of the Mattei Plan, Lorenzo Ortona, the ambassadors of the Democratic Republic of Congo and Sierra Leone, and the Permanent Representative of the United Arab Emirates to IRENA. The meeting allowed them to listen to the expectations of African countries, to emphasize the importance of public-private collaboration, and to develop synergies between Italian initiatives and projects in renewables from IRENA and the United Arab Emirates.
Ambassador Lorenzo Fanara commented, “The excellence of the relationship between Italy and the United Arab Emirates and Irena’s presence in Abu Dhabi urge us to be ambitious and explore avenues for public-private sector collaboration in Africa in the renewables sector as well, in order to contribute concrete initiatives to the continent’s prosperity.” Deputy National Coordinator of the Mission Structure for the implementation of the Mattei Plan, Lorenzo Ortona, commented, “The Mattei Plan has the development of renewable energy in Africa among its main objectives following an inclusive and women empowerment approach. It was a valuable opportunity to be able to have an exchange of ideas on some ongoing Mattei Plan projects with African diplomatic representatives in Abu Dhabi and with a key partner such as the United Arab Emirates, with whom we are collaborating in Africa, in the framework of the IRENA Council meeting days.”
