PALERMO (ITALPRESS) – Not only the celebration of an event, but an opportunity to reflect all together on the results obtained and on those still to be obtained. At Palazzo Steri the fifth edition of “Lection zero – March 8”, organized by the University of Palermo on the occasion of the International Women’s Day: the theme chosen for this year is “Women, Constitution, University”.
The vote of 2 June 1946, the first of Italy’s history open to the female universe, is seen as a point both of arrival and of departure: in the first case all the achievements obtained up to that moment in terms of rights, in the second one looks at the role of the woman in Republican Italy and the space that has been cut out over the years. However, this is a journey still on display: in this sense, ‘Lection zero – March 8’ becomes the stage to make the point of the situation year by year and draw new goals.
“The message we want to send with this appointment is to continue a reasoning that has lasted for four years: gender equality, inclusion and all events related to March 8 do not concern a single date, but constitute a methodology of work – emphasizes the rector Massimo Midiri – We must interpret this message every day: the University does it through a constant activity of our proctorate to inclusion, with initiatives aimed at creating the culture of the genre.
In some sectors, Midiri adds, “we have already achieved the fateful gender equality: today in this athenaeus the role of women is certainly not marginal, but even central in many apical structures; it shows the fact that we have many department directors and many ordinary teachers. After so long we have crushed the famous crystal roof, but we must continue with a logic that must reach all students and students”. Looking at the three aspects relaunched in the appointment, that is women, constitution and university, the author to the Inclusion, the Equal Opportunities and the Policies of gender Beatrice Pasciuta highlights how “the guiding thread could only be the 80th anniversary of the vote to women and with it of the path of the Constitution. We will be divided between the historical aspect, regarding the path of women’s rights to the Constitution, and what is still to be done: we are convinced that it has been done so much, but there is still a lot of road to do, even only for the implementation of the principles provided for by our Constitution.”.
