The Italian Sport Day in the World event was held on October 7 at the Italian Consulate General in New York, a meeting dedicated to excellence and innovation in Italian sport. The initiative brought together important figures from the national and international sports scene, with the aim of promoting Italian sports culture abroad and strengthening links with the Italian-American community. The event is part of the programme of institutional activities aimed at enhancing the role of Italy in global sport, also as a tool for cultural diplomacy.
During the talk, moderated by journalist of the Gazzetta dello Sport USA Simone Sandri, the former national footballer Giuseppe “Pepito” Rossi, basketball champion Kyle Hines, CEO of New York Cosmos Erik Stover, sports manager Veronica Angeloni and Riccardo Fois, assistant coach of the Italian National basketball team and the New York Knicks. The testimonies offered a look at how the Italian sports experience is recognized for technical quality, training and ability to build successful models even outside the national borders.
To bring special contributions were Ekaterina Antropova, world champion 2025 with the Women’s Volleyball National, and Vincent Candela, former Roma player and today among the protagonists of the World Legends Padel Tour. Their presence has emphasized the value of the international dimension of Italian sport, which continues to produce talents and to export skills in different disciplines.
The event, concluded with a tasting of Italian dishes curated by chef Fabrizio Facchini, highlighted the link between sport, culture and national identity. The initiative is part of the projects supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the promotion of the “Sistema Italia” in the world, which also includes the valorization of the protagonists of sport as ambassadors of Italian creativity and professionalism.
