CAGLIARI (ITALPRESS) – Gasperini’s Atalanta continued to fly and also won against Cagliari at the Unipol Domus, thanks to Zaniolo’s goal in the second half and Carnesecchi’s saves. In the advance of the sixteenth day of Serie A, the orobici folded the Sardinian outfit 1-0, thus cultivating the Scudetto dream more than ever. For Atalanta, in fact, it is the tenth consecutive success in the league, a figure never reached in its history. The Nerazzurri’s performance was not aesthetically impeccable, but in the end the three points came against a Cagliari that was anything but surrendering. In the first half, in fact, Nicola’s lineup undoubtedly played better. Despite a decent start to the game by La Dea, in the long run the hosts proved more proactive, coming close to scoring on more than one occasion. Keeping Atalanta from going back into the locker room on the back foot, however, was a super Carnesecchi. At 39′, the former Cremonese goalkeeper rose to prominence, first neutralizing Piccoli’s double attempt, then also parrying Zortea’s shot. A less-than-satisfied Gasperini then decided to put his hand to the team at halftime.
The first-minute choices of Brescianini and Retegui were not convincing: in their place the second half would therefore be played by De Roon and Lookman. Right at the start the substitutions seem to pay off: Lookman, in fact, serves De Katelaere in the area, but the Belgian, in front of Sherri, sends incredibly high. A whole different Atalanta is now seen on the field, definitely more dangerous and intense than in the first half. Cagliari, on the other hand, looks less brilliant and more suffering in marking in the area, given the absence of Retegui as a reference for the defenders. At 64′ Gasperini also inserted Zaniolo and Samardzic, and the two new additions scored the winning goal after just two minutes. The Serbian, in fact, builds and spreads for Bellanova: the former Inter player puts a low ball into the box, on which Zaniolo volleyed, quick to seal the 1-0. Lookman’s possible double at 68′ instead shattered at the post. Despite not always polished handling of the ball, the final minutes held no nasty surprises for Atalanta, thanks in part to Carnesecchi’s save on Pavoletti in the recovery. The Nerazzurri thus consolidate their lead while waiting for the matches of the pursuers.
