Automotive, from the EU Commission a 1.8 billion plan

BRUSSELS (BELGIUM) (ITALPRESS) – The European Commission has presented an action plan, which is based on strategic dialogue and presents concrete actions that will ensure a strong and sustainable automotive sector. To maintain a strong European production base and avoid strategic dependencies, we will provide 1.8 billion to create a secure and competitive supply chain for battery raw materials , which will help support the growth of the European automotive industry. A dedicated European alliance for connected and autonomous vehicles will bring together European automotive stakeholders to shape the development of next-generation vehicles and help develop the shared software and digital hardware needed to bring this technology to life. These actions will be supported by joint public-private investments of about 1 billion supported by the Horizon Europe program over the period 2025-2027.

Today’s action plan is accompanied by the Decarbonise Corporate Fleets communication, which highlights examples of good practice and encourages member states to take further steps to green corporate fleets, which account for about 60 percent of new car registrations. The Commission will propose a targeted amendment to the regulation on CO2 standards for cars and vans this month. The amendment, if adopted, would allow car manufacturers to meet their compliance targets by averaging their performance over a three-year period (2025-2027), allowing them to compensate for any shortfall in one or two years with overachievement in the other years, while maintaining overall ambition on the 2025 targets. In parallel, the Commission is working on ways to increase demand for European zero-emission vehicles.
