Avalanche in Cortina, mountain rescue recovers three skiers involved

CORTINA (ITALPRESS) – Three skiers were caught in an avalanche in the Dolomites, between Cortina d’Ampezzo and Val Fiorentina: they were found by mountain rescue teams and rescued.

“Fortunately, a fourth skier was not involved in the avalanche, alerted the rescuers and we intervened with nearby stations, even with two helicopters,” Giuseppe Zandegiacomo Sampogna, president of the Veneto Alpine Rescue, explained to the microphones of Rai News 24. “It was very challenging as a rescue because two skiers were under several meters of snow. Fortunately, we managed to overcome the top layer of the avalanche and rescue them.”

“We are following with apprehension the ongoing rescue operations in Cortina after the avalanche,” Tourism Minister Daniela Santanchè had written on X. My solidarity to all those involved and heartfelt thanks to the rescuers for their tireless efforts. People’s safety must be our priority.”
