FLORENCE (ITALPRESS) – In Florence, where a code orange for rain and the risk of severe thunderstorms has been in effect since midnight today, the Arno River has exceeded the first guard level, set at three meters. At one of the three sensing stations at the Uffizi it reached 3.31 meters with a flow rate of 974 cubic meters per second. Heavy rainfall has been recorded in recent hours sin the city: the hydrometer at the Florence-Boboli station recorded 6.6 millimeters of rain in a quarter of an hour and 11.4 mm in an hour. Wind gusts reached a peak of nearly 33 km/h at 8 o’clock.
Flood service activated: Arno at first watch level in Bagno a Ripoli, Florence, Lastra a Signa and Montelupo with flow rate in the order of 1,000 cubic meters per second at Uffizi. Scattered precipitation in the coming hours, especially over inland areas. The active storm line over the Ligurian Sea is expected to extend toward the north-central coast.
In the last three hours there has been rainfall over much of the territory with accumulations of up to 50 mm in the Pisa area, up to 30 mm over the province of Florence. This was announced through its Facebook profile by the Lamma Consortium, which also explains how there are widespread exceedances of the first reference level throughout the monitored reticulum of the Arno basin, particularly in the provinces of Florence, Prato and Pistoia, but also in the Arezzo and Pisa areas.
During the next 3 hours, showers and local thunderstorms will continue to affect northern areas, the situation will be little changed in the following hours with phenomena persisting over the same areas.
