Bankitalia, in 2025 the public debt up to 3.095.5 billion

ROMA (ITALPRESS) – At 31 December 2025, according to the estimates of the Bank of Italy, the debt of public administrations was 3.095.5 billion; at the end of 2024 amounted to 2.966.9 billion.

The increase in debt compared to the previous year has reflected the requirements of public administrations (109.2 billion), the increase in the liquid availability of the Treasury (14.7 billion, 52.4) and the overall effect of wastes and premiums for issue and refund, the revaluation of securities indexed to inflation and change of exchange (4.6 billion).

With reference to sub-sector allocation, the consolidated debt of central administrations increased by 132 billion, at 3.016.3, while that of local administrations was reduced by 3.4 billion, at 79.1; the debt of pension agencies remained substantially stable.

The average residual life of the debt was in line with the end of 2024 (7.9 years). In the course of 2025 the share of the debt held by the Bank of Italy decreased, placing at 18.5%, from 21.6% at the end of the previous year.
