Barilla gets impact award for breast cancer prevention

MILAN (ITALPRESS) – The awards ceremony for the third edition of the Impact Prize was held at Bocconi University in Milan, in the setting of the CSR and Social Innovation Show. The award, which highlights the growing importance of assessing the impact generated by companies, honored the Barilla Group and its initiative dedicated to in-company information and prevention of breast cancer. A project, the one promoted by Barilla, which offered Barilla employees a program of meetings at the Group’s headquarters in Pedrignano (PR). The initiative is carried out in collaboration with the Breast Unit of the University Hospital of Parma. Doctors from the Maggiore Hospital have made themselves available to bring their expertise and culture of prevention to the company’s workplaces, with the possibility of requesting individual consultations. In addition, digital information materials are available on the company intranet. According to WHO, the chance of prevention of all cancer cases is between 30 and 50 percent. For some types of cancer, such as breast cancer, early detection greatly increases life expectancy, and prevention and adoption of proper lifestyles play a key role. For this reason, Barilla has also dedicated this initiative to its people, which aims to clarify doubts, deepen self-knowledge, and explain how important it is to know one’s body and adhere to prevention programs. The Impact Award represents for Barilla an important recognition of a daily commitment to the 9,000 people who, every day, create and maintain the company’s value and help the company realize its purpose “The joy of food for a better world.” Their well-being, health, and safety are central to the Group’s priorities. The “yes.Mediterraneo” program, born out of a collaboration between the Department of Clinical and Experimental Medicine of the University of Naples Federico II and the University of Parma, also goes in this direction, raising awareness among all Barilla people around the world about the benefits of the Mediterranean diet and proper eating habits. But Barilla’s commitment also goes to consumers. The Parma-based Group is at the forefront in promoting the spread of the Mediterranean Diet and correct lifestyles around the world, thanks to a widespread presence in more than 100 countries to which it brings about 2 million tons of food inspired by the Mediterranean diet every year. In particular, the production of pasta and sauces, basically everything needed to “assemble” the dish that is the symbol of the Mediterranean diet, accounts for more than 50 percent of its turnover. As a food company, Barilla’s focus on nutrition and the promotion of healthy lifestyles go hand in hand: nearly 500 products have been reformulated since 2010, 16 with an improved nutritional profile launched in 2023. Barilla is also committed to developing educational and informative activities for the new generations: through Giocampus and Vivismart Barilla has involved more than 44,500 children in activities dedicated to nutrition education, motor education and correct lifestyles. Another sign of Barilla’s commitment is its collaboration, active for several years, with Lilt Milano – Lega Italiana per la Lotta contro i Tumori. The company supports the association through donations of its products, which are included in the food package distributed monthly to beneficiaries of all ages who are in economically and socially fragile conditions.(ITALPRESS).-Photo: Barilla press office-
