Bergamini “Federkombat growing, every year a step”

ROME (ITALPRESS) – “We have been expanding for a few years already. Every year we manage to take a step forward and increase the number of our members and participation in competitions. We have really busy calendars, between national and international activities there are no gaps during the year, and from a competitive success point of view we are, according to the international federation we refer to, Wako, the only nation that has the same kind of competitiveness on both full and light contact sports.” First a level athlete, then dt and ct of the national kickboxing team: Riccardo Bergamini, newly appointed president of Federkombat, a federation that includes not only kickboxing but also Muay Thai, Savate, Shoot Boxe, Sambo and MMA, has clear ideas on how to give a new impetus to the ‘sectorè, especially to ‘recruit’ new fans.

“Athletes represent the ‘corè of our federation, my attention now will be devoted exclusively to improving their conditions,” the Roman executive explained in an interview in the Capitoline headquarters of Italpress. “Contextually to this there are the technicians, who train the athletes who then become the phenomena of tomorrow, and even with them we must have a different attitude, much more participatory. We have to involve them in our international talks, we have to learn to speak the same language in order to really get to be a structured family, where communication starts from the top and reaches the bottom, and so the feedback from the bottom reaches the top and in this way the interaction is more productive for everyone.”

Kickboxing dreamed of a place on the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic program, but the hope of entering the five-ring disciplines was certainly not lost. “On the contrary, it is absolutely feasible, when the negative response came, the disappointment was very strong. We were among the seven disciplines selected to enter Los Angeles, and we were first in their particular ranking. Then all of a sudden we were overtaken: as in all things the economic part plays a fundamental role, and where an economic part does not arrive there is the political part of those who organize, and we were left out, certainly not for demerits neither technical nor spectacular. So it is not a dream but a relatively short term project. Whether we will be there in Brisbane 2032? We have high hopes,” Bergamini concludes.
