Berrettini charged up for Brisbane “I like to push myself to the limit.”

ROME (ITALPRESS) – “Last year I had missed playing in Australia. I’m very charged up.” A smiling and confident Matteo Berrettini told all his optimism ahead of the Brisbane International, the first leg of his 2025. “I am happy to be here and to be well. Two years ago in Brisbane we had a great run in United Cup, this year I hope to go ahead in the tournament,” he said in an interview for the tournament’s official media reported by Supertennis. Of the United Cup, Berrettini recalls the great atmosphere within the team, the same atmosphere that characterized the days in Malaga when the Davis Cup and Billie Jean King Cup national teams shared the same spaces and celebrated a double triumph unprecedented in the history of Italian tennis. He also pointed out the large presence of fans in the stands. “I was surprised that there were so many Italians who came to cheer for us, and still so many people to watch the matches. People here really love tennis,” explained the Roman, who was greeted by fans who stopped for a photo or autograph with him. The Italian did not give himself any goals in terms of results or ranking at the moment. “I hope it will be a season full of tournaments and matches,” the words of Berrettini, who has been all too much held back by injuries in recent seasons. The first leg will already be probing for the level of play of the only Italian finalist at Wimbledon in men’s singles. “The Brisbane International is probably one of the 250s with the best draw on the circuit, at the beginning of the season everyone wants to play well after preparation. Every match can be difficult, but I have been training a lot and I will give my best,” Berrettini assured. Now number 34 in the world, Berrettini is one of the big names on the tournament’s roster, which also features Novak Djokovic, who is in the hunt for ATP title number 100 in his career, a milestone achieved in the Open era only by Jimmy Connors and Roger Federer. In addition to the Serb, a 10-time champion at the Australian Open, Grigor Dimitrov (world number 10), Holger Rune (13), Frances Tiafoe (18), Nick Kyrgios (now unranked), Sebastian Korda (22) and Gael Monfils (55) will be in Brisbane. “I like to push myself to the limit and I hope to play a lot of matches,” the Italian concluded, “Two years ago I went to the Botanical Garden, I liked it very much and I think I will go back. Then for my father it’s the first time in Australia, I’ll show him a bit of Brisbane.”- Photo Ipa Agency -(ITALPRESS).
