Biologists, Rossetto “Growing profession in demand in every field”

MILAN (ITALPRESS) – Nearly 12 thousand biologists practice in Lombardy, of whom 5,600 are registered with the order. A veritable army of health professionals, who work in various fields (from public health to biosanitary laboratories, from the environment to nutrition) and are experiencing strong employment growth – +14% -, so much so that they are considered “the category of the future.” President of the Order of Biologists of Lombardy Rudy Alexander Rossetto, interviewed by Italpress News Agency, stressed the strategic nature of the professionals he represents. “We are very important for research. We deal with genetics, infectious diseases, environmental sustainability, nanotechnology and vaccines. We seem to be in the background, but we are actually at the forefront of hospital research, sports research, environmental research. Our job is to prevent through research, although when needed we also intervene in the treatment part,” he explains. To make the general public aware of the importance of biologists’ work, the so-called “Blue Night” is organized every year. “Blue as the color of science, but also of water and the sky. All sectors in which we are present,” Rossetto comments. “For us, Blue Night is a celebration in which we make known the state of the art and the future prospects of our profession in the Lombardy Region, also confronting us with the institutional and health world. It is also a moment of recognition for our members, who are awarded for their experience and research, both to give a just tribute to those who have been working in this field for so long and to stimulate young people.” Speaking of young people, the Lombard president of the Order of Biologists emphasized how much biologists are in demand in today’s working world: “They are in demand in numerous sectors, from the environmental to the health sector to the food sector. Right now, biologists in particular are in high demand in the world of bioinformatics. Right now there are not many in Italy and we are getting them from abroad. We have to try to speed up on that because there is so much market. We are also in demand from the world of artificial intelligence, in data interpretation, and in genetics.” With regard to institutions, Rossetto and Lombard biologists’ main request is to “open the health record to freelancers as well, but also more funds for research, better collaboration with general practitioners and a greater presence of our category in decision-making tables,” while with regard to the university world, “after entering the steering committees, we would like to give indications on what is the market research for a territorial training. With the university we are also doing advanced courses and master’s degrees to open up new specializations.”(ITALPRESS).
