MALAGA (SPAIN) (ITALPRESS) – Women’s Italtennis advanced to the semifinals of the Billie Jean King Cup Finals, being held on the fast-paced Martin Carpena Arena in Malaga, Spain. The Italian women’s team, making their debut in the event, overcame Japan 2-1 in the quarterfinals: the doubles point was decisive, which saw reigning Olympic champions Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini overcome Japan’s Shuko Aoyama and Eri Hozumi 6-3 6-4, in one hour and 17 minutes of play. After the two singles matches, the challenge was in a perfect tie: Elisabetta Cocciaretto had surrendered 3-6 6-4 6-4 to Ena Shibahara, Jasmine Paolini had then beaten 6-3 6-4 Moyuka Uchijima in the match between the number one ranked players.
