MILAN (ITALPRESS) – Domenico Pellegrino, managing director of the Bluvacanze Group, participated in the celebrations of the 80 years of the Italian Sports Press Union (USSI), underlining the deep conviction that sport and tourism are indissolubly linked, both as economies and as social phenomena, with a significant impact on the well-being of people and the territorial economies, especially when there is a coordinated action between institutions, representatives of the destinations, structured tourist player and networks. The USSI celebrated its 80th anniversary with the event “Ussi80 – Italy Sports Summit”, held on 15 and 16 January 2026 in Viareggio, at the Events Principle. The two days of debate involved athletes, protagonists of sports journalism and federations; and has been included in the official initiatives to remember and value the role of the association in the Italian journalistic landscape. The summit addressed key issues such as the role of the youth sector in Italian football and the need to offer more space to young talents in the professional championships. The initiative has spanned beyond football, including panels dedicated to women’s sports, cycling, athletics, volleyball, tennis and Olympics, with the participation of champions, federal executives and industry professionals.
The focus “Sport & Tourism: tribute to Milan-Cortina” has highlighted the impacts of major events on mobility, hospitality and promotion of destinations, areas where travel industry operators such as the Bluvacanze Group are directly involved. In this context, Domenico Pellegrino spoke as a speaker in the talk “Sport, enterprise and institutions”, where he addressed the theme of the intersection between sport and economic/institutional system, highlighting how tourism linked to events generates value on the territories and the productive chains. “As in an Olympic relay, the great events, for example the upcoming Winter Olympics scheduled in Italy since February 6, are decisive levers to create a fascinating narrative on Belpaese, its excellence and operational efficiency, recounting with passion challenges and successes capable of passionately inspiring Italians and enhancing our territories over the long term,” stressed the Group’s ADI Bluvacanze. A special praise goes to Gianfranco Coppola, president USSI and journalist Rai, who in his speech reiterated the importance of telling the sport not only as an agonistic event, but as a human and social phenomenon, enhancing a storytelling of triumphs connected to immense sacrifices, therefore emphasizing the role of sports journalism in connecting champions and communities. In this context, having articulated the debate with the presence of an industrial tourism group has reiterated the importance of integrating entrepreneurial vision and local development. Coppola then presided over the delivery of the “Ussi80 – The Tale of Sports”, awards attributed to national chroniclers, consolidating the valorization of the profession and the collective memory of the sports press.
