MILAN (ITALPRESS) – With the new BMW R 12 G/S, the German manufacturer offers a classic enduro for genuine off-road fun. It takes the spirit of the boxer-engined off-road enduro in the style of the R 80 G/S and projects it into the present with modern technologies.
With long-travel suspension, cross-spoke wheels and a compact, streamlined cockpit fairing. Three seat configurations, high-grip enduro footpegs and handlebar risers for off-road riding enthusiasts.
The new BMW R 12 G/S comes standard with a flat single-seat seat, ideal for enduro riding even when standing up. The optional Pillion Package includes a two-seat seat. The double-thick aluminum tubular handlebars allow for optimal ergonomic adjustment.
The optional Enduro package includes a 20 mm riser. The air/oil-cooled boxer engine, with a bore of 101 mm, stroke of 73 mm and displacement of 1,170 cc, already adopted in numerous BMW motorcycle models, delivers 80 kW (109 hp) at 7,000 rpm and a maximum torque of 115 Nm at 6,500 rpm. The exhaust system positioned on the left side, with a top-mounted rear silencer, perfectly meets the requirements of a classic enduro. It is already equipped as standard with “Rain,” “Road” and “Enduro” riding modes. It also has dynamic traction control (DTC), which ensures a high level of riding safety during acceleration.
For off-road use, the DTC can be completely disabled. It also comes standard with the Engine Torque Release Regulation (MSR) system. Shift Assistant Pro, available as an ex-factory option for the new BMW R 12 G/S, enables clutchless gear shifting under almost all load and speed conditions. It offers superior dynamic performance and greater comfort than a manual transmission, thanks to extremely fast shift times that allow smooth, continuous acceleration with minimal interruptions in tractive power.
The one-piece tubular steel bridge frame of the R 12 family forms the heart of the new BMW R 12 G/S. The rear frame, also made of tubular steel, is bolted to the main structure. It comes standard with a 21-inch front wheel. A 17-inch wheel, also standard, is mounted in the rear. For greater off-road capability, an 18-inch rear wheel is available and is included in the Enduro Package Pro.
The front wheel is handled by a fully adjustable upside-down telescopic fork with a diameter of 45 mm and a generous 210 mm of travel. As with other models in the BMW R 12 family, the rear wheel is driven by a Paralever swingarm. Suspension and damping are handled by an angled shock absorber with 200 mm travel, equipped with stroke-dependent damping and adjustable in every parameter.
The front wheel has a dual disc brake, with two axially mounted 2-piston floating calipers and 310 mm diameter discs. At the rear is a single disc brake with a 2-piston floating caliper and 265 mm disc.
The new R 12 G/S is already equipped as standard with the BMW Motorrad Abs Pro (partially integral) system, which provides greater safety even in cornering braking, thanks to the activation of the Abs during leaning phases. Finally, LED front headlight and turn signals, and three colors are offered.
