WASHINGTON (USA) (ITALPRESS) – “President Trump is ready to host the first meeting of the Board of Peace and will be made available $5 billion for the reconstruction of Gaza.” The White House spokesman Karoline Leavitt during the press briefing. According to Leavitt the Trump administration “wanted that all those who were invited to join the Board of Peace, because the body is overseeing the great reconstruction of a territory that has been hit for too long by violence, bloodshed and poverty,” he said, adding that the president carries out “a very ambitious plan and vision” for the reconstruction of Gaza.
“The final decision on how the funds announced will be spent will be spent at the Board of Peace, of which Trump is of course the president – added Leavitt- but I believe that all members of the Board will have a vote on funding.” Leavitt also explained the role of the inaugural meeting of the body, scheduled tomorrow at the Institute of Peace in Washington, specifying that under the political body there is also “a technocratic level, with member countries taking decisions”, inviting to refer to the initial presentation of the Board structure. “If you come back and look at the first event in which we presented the structure of the Board of Peace, that structure remains in force and will supervise the funds that will be announced tomorrow,” he said, underlining the continuity of the decision-making system.
Responding then to a question about the announcement connected to the Board and the planned creation of an international force of stability, in particular on the time of deployment and the possible free way of regional partners, the spokesperson explained that a precise timetable is not yet available. “I don’t have a timing to give you today, but I’m sure that more details will come,” he said. Leavitt also confirmed that over twenty countries will participate in the meeting and that the president will open the work with an introductory intervention, in a context of strong international attention towards the new architecture of governance and financing outlined by the administration. The spokesman then added that in view of the summit, more than twenty countries are expected to participate. As announced by Leavitt, Trump “opens the meeting with some comments”, while the official will formally preside over the beginning of the work before the departure of the White House leader for Georgia.
