MELBOURNE (AUSTRALIA) (ITALPRESS) – Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori, the number 3 seed, defeated Nuno Borges and Francisco Cabral of Portugal 64 76(3) and reached the semifinals in men’s doubles at the Australian Open 2025. They will face Sweden’s Andre Goransson and Sem Verbeek of the Netherlands, who surprised Salvador’s Marcelo Arevalo and Croatia’s Mate Pavic, ATP No. 1 doubles champions and Itf world champions for 2024, 64 46 63. The Italian pair, finalists last year, in earlier rounds eliminated Germans Constantin Frantzen and Hendrik Jebens in the first round, then beat Italian Luciano Darderi with Colombian Diego Hidalgo and Spaniards Pedro Martinez and Jaume Munar. So far Bolelli and Vavassori have yet to lose a set and won all four tie-breaks played at Melbourne Park. Bolelli, who improved his best ranking in doubles after 10 years and climbed to the No. 6 position thanks to his success in Adelaide with Vavassori, has played at least the quarters for the sixth time at the Australian Open, where he triumphed in 2015 paired with Fabio Fognini. They then became the first all-Italian pair to win a Slam in men’s doubles since Nicola Pietrangeli and Orlando Sirola’s triumph at Roland Garros in 2015. Thanks to today’s success, they will play their fourth semifinal at the Australian Open in men’s doubles. Vavassori, No. 7 in the doubles rankings, is preparing for his third Slam semifinal in men’s doubles, all with Bolelli, after finals in Melbourne and Roland Garros in 2024.- Photo Ipa Agency -(ITALPRESS).
