Bologna to Italian Cup quarterfinals, Monza overwhelmed 4-0

BOLOGNA (ITALPRESS) – Poker of Bologna, which at the Dall’Ara knocked out Monza 4-0 and snatched the pass for the quarterfinals of the Coppa Italia where it will face the winner of the challenge between Atalanta and Cesena (scheduled for Dec. 18 at 6:30 p.m.). For the red and blue to score Pobega and Orsolini in the first half and Dominguez and Castro in the second half. Extensive turnover for both coaches. Italiano gives Ferguson a chance to put minutes in his legs. Orsolini and Iling Junior play with the Scot in the trident acting in support of Castro. Nesta chooses 4-4-2, wide on the flanks Ciurria and Vignato, in front are Petagna and Maric. Bologna proactive and Monza crushed from the first minutes in their own half. It started with Iling Junior being a cross and a delight when he slalomed away on the left but then, in a three-on-one, ignored Ferguson and Orsolini who were better placed and went for the shot, firing clamorously high over the crossbar of the goal defended by Pizzignacco. The Brianzoli’s extreme defender is noted for a fine save on Orsolini however capitulates shortly after the half-hour mark when the hosts take the lead: Castro works a ball on the edge of the area and entrusts it to Pobega who fires a ground-to-air missile from the instep, the goalkeeper touches but cannot prevent the goal. Three minutes later comes the de facto decisive sequence in the economy of the match. Monza protested a contact in the Bologna penalty area between Holm and Valoti, Ferrieri Caputi let it slide (the Var would later certify the field referee’s choice), and the Felsinei went on the counterattack with Orsolini, who sprinted on the offside line and scored, overcoming Pizzignacco’s exit with a dig. Just as he was setting up the 2-0 score, the Rossoblù 7 suffered a flexor muscle problem and was forced to leave the field; Dominguez took his place. At the beginning of the second half, Nesta left Vignato in the locker room and inserted Dany Mota to try to give more verve to the offensive phase, but Bologna remained masters of the field and ran rampant. Break on the left lane of the always lively Iling Junior who goes for a low, taut cross into the box: Castro misses the winning deflection, however behind him Dominguez does not let the opportunity slip and seals the first goal in a red and blue shirt, 3-0. A shot by Birindelli, blocked by Ravaglia, precedes the Emilian poker and personal joy for Castro as well: high ball recovery by Dominguez who entrusts the ball to the Argentine striker, then good at finding in the area the space for the low shot on which Pizzignacco has to bow again. In the finale, a header by Carboni for Monza ended high and Iling Junior came close to the manita with a great shot deflected onto the post by the goalkeeper. Still, for Bologna it is an afternoon of celebration.- Photo Image -(ITALPRESS).
