ROMA (ITALPRESS) – It is called “The faces of medals – Backstage Heroes: no one wins alone”, and it is the initiative that will allow every athlete on the podium in Milan-Cortina 2026 to indicate four people who contributed to the achievement of the result and who, in turn, will receive a special recognition.
The project was carried out by the Istituto Poligrafico e Zecca dello Stato, with the collaboration with the Ministry of Economy and Finance, the Ministry for Sport and Youth and the Italian National Olympic Committee. As explained by the Minister for Sport and Youth, Andrea Abodi, at the end of the Games “every athlete will indicate four people who contributed to the achievement of the result. In spring we will organize an event and invite everyone to Rome and celebrate with the delivery of medals this project. We must give these people the joy of being recognized, because we do not go anywhere alone.”.
For the president of the Coni, Luciano Buonfiglio, this is “an exceptional idea, which is added to the others that make these Games those of the first time. We have obtained the four flag holders, the two braziers, the widespread Olimpiade, and this time we dedicate to the athletes an initiative that, I am sure, will be appreciated immediately and in the manifestations of the future”. Adding a nice anecdote: “I conquered my current wife by giving her the medal I had won as an Italian champion.”.
On the margin, to those who ask him to calculate how many medals will be delivered at the end, in relation to the number of Italian podiums at the Games, the number one of the Olympic Committee responds smiling: “I hope to make round figures, a beautiful 100”. For the president of the Cip, Marco Giunio De Sanctis, Backstage Heroes is “something extraordinary I expected.
