MILAN (ITALPRESS) – The trend toward electrification is becoming increasingly popular in the marine industry. At METSTRADE, Bosch Engineering unveiled a new high-performance electrification solution for systems up to 800V, which further extends the potential fields of application for electric traction in the marine industry while also improving system efficiency. “With the latest generation of our motors and inverters with silicon carbide power modules, we offer a complete system that enables recreational boats and even larger yachts to use electric, efficient, quiet and powerful traction,” said Philip Kurek, head of Off-Highway and Marine Solutions at Bosch Engineering.
The new SMG 230 electric motor is designed for 400V to 800V systems. Under ideal voltage and temperature conditions, it delivers continuous power of up to 200 kW and about 250 Nm of torque. With the 800V technology, power density also increases significantly. The SMG 230 motor provides 80 kW more power than a comparable 400V system machine of the same weight or, for the same level of performance, has more compact dimensions and much less weight.
The inverter with silicon carbide semiconductors, also designed for systems up to 800V, is distinguished by an outstanding efficiency of more than 99%. The silicon carbide semiconductors in the power modules enable faster switching operations, which results in significantly reduced energy loss in the form of heat.
Bosch’s complete boat electrification kit includes electronic control units, inverters, electric motors and transmissions for 400V and 800V applications. Shipyards and system integrators therefore have maximum flexibility according to their needs to integrate the components quickly and easily into their boats. The system components are based on modern automotive technology and combine high robustness with maximum reliability. With the complete boat electrification kit, Bosch makes a significant contribution to reducing emissions and noise.
