Brignone ahead of Goggia, Italian triumph in Super-G in La Thuile

LA THUILE (ITALPRESS) – Federica Brignone triumphs in the super-G in La Thuile, a round valid for the 2024/2025 Alpine Skiing World Cup. 57″95 is the time of the Aosta Valley native, who is one hundredth ahead of Sofia Goggia. Third at 0″05 was Frenchwoman Romane Miradoli.

At the foot of the podium were the two Swiss women Corinne Suter and Lara Gut-Behrami, both fourth at 0″35. Elena Curtoni sixth at 0″59. In points Marta Bassino (11th at 0″69), Roberta Melesi (21st at 1″17) and Laura Pirovano (26th at 1″74). Out of the top 30 Nadia Delago (37th at 2″67), Vicky Bernardi (41st at 2″81) and Asja Zenere (42nd at 2″89). Fall without consequences for Nicol Delago.

Brignone rises to 1454 points in the overall standings, +382 over Gut with four races to go.

“I have no words. My dream was to win here in La Thuile in front of my people. It was one of the dreams I had for this season. I am happy that we were able to compete thanks to the great help of the race officials.” These are the words of Federica Brignone, to the microphones of Eurosport, after her victory in the super-G in La Thuile.

“I am having a fantastic day,” Brignone said. I wanted to arrive in green light in front of this audience. I didn’t think about anything else. I didn’t make any mistakes, everything went well, I was fast. The track was much better than yesterday. Plus I had two fortunes: starting with number 6 and getting in front by a few hundredths. I will go to Sun Valley with two red bibs, but nothing is finished. I still have a lot to play for and I have to stay focused for two weeks. It has been an increasingly tough and increasingly challenging season. For these reasons I need to stay in the piece until the end, and it won’t be easy at all.”

The azure added, “Hopefully, this time they will deliver the Cup in my hand and not mail it to me. And that’s something I’ve always dreamed of. Sofia has a very impressive work culture and the ability to pick herself up. For these reasons we continue to make podiums and important results. We thank the Federation that puts us in the best conditions to be able to give our best.”
