ROME (ITALPRESS) – Ahead of tomorrow’s National Day Against Bullying and Cyberbullying, Senator Giusy Versace organized a conference to reflect, deepen and find new ideas and insights to curb the phenomenon, which is increasingly growing among young people. A discussion from which emerged a picture of fragile adolescents, very often alone with absent families and increasingly exposed to the risks of digital communication, as the only reference model. The data illustrated during the conference are alarming: 65% of the teens interviewed (14 years and older) claim to have experienced violence and of these 63% have been bullied, with the consequent increase in psychological consequences such as anxiety, depression, self-harm and even suicide, which is now the second leading cause of death in young people. In addition, it also emerged that the age at which young people have access to smarthphones and devices of this type is getting lower and lower. It emerged from the speeches how prevention is very important, that schools play a key role where family is lacking, and sports are a lifeline. “As a member of the bicameral Childhood and Adolescence Committee, as every year I feel it is my duty to organize this kind of discussion with authoritative voices, partly to understand where we stand and partly to identify useful solutions to stem this rampant social problem. There are still too many cases of physical injuries and suicides related to this kind of violence, and bullying and cyberbullying are no longer to be considered mere juveniles as they once were. It became clear,” Versace noted, “that although laws are an important step, they cannot solve everything. The real key lies in education, prevention, listening and constructive dialogue between school family and institutions. We all have a duty to sow seeds of kindness and offer positive examples to young people, helping them build a better world,” Versace concluded.(ITALPRESS).-Photo: Versace press office-
