MILAN (ITALPRESS) – BYD, the world’s leading manufacturer of new energy vehicles, celebrates the milestone of 15 million NEV products, strengthening its commitment to increasingly sustainable mobility. New-energy vehicles include both 100% electric (BEV) and electrified models with innovative Super Hybrid technology with DM system. Introducing as many consumers as possible to the benefits in terms of performance, efficiency and management costs of these engines is a central element of BYD’s global goal: helping to reduce the planet’s temperature by one degree. The vehicle number 15 million came out of a production line at Jinan plant in China. Following the story, BYD created its first new energy vehicle in 2008, with the world’s first plug-in hybrid. 13 years were needed to reach the first million NEV, but the expansion of the company and the growing popularity of its products allowed to pass from 10 to 15 million vehicles in only 13 months.
14 million was reached on 9 October 2025. This last milestone completes a particularly significant year of growth for BYD. In the first 11 months of 2025 total production reached 4,182 million vehicles, with an increase of 11.3% on an annual basis. In the same period, foreign sales reached 917,000 units, exceeding the total recorded in the entire 2024, while the global presence of BYD today extends to over 110 countries and regions.
As a technology company, BYD continues to invest significantly in research and development. In the first three quarters of 2025, BYD invested 43.75 billion RMB (5.3 billion euros) in R&D, an increase of 31% compared to the previous year, bringing the total cumulative investment to more than 220 billion RMB (26.65 billion euros). This constant commitment has led to innovations ranging from chemistry and battery architecture to advanced driving assistance systems and Flash Charging to megawatt, which allows charging times comparable to those of fuel supply and which will also be introduced in Europe in 2026. BYD is currently present in 33 European countries with about 1,000 stores. Plans are already planned to double the number of dealers by the end of 2026.
