Cagliari holds out for a time, then Inter kicks down the hat trick

CAGLIARI (ITALPRESS) – A clear success by Inter, which beat Cagliari 3-0 and returned at least momentarily to the top of the standings, co-habiting with Atalanta pending the challenge between Dea and Lazio, as well as Napoli. Bastoni, Lautaro and Calhanoglu were the three Inter goalscorers, against a Cagliari side that hardly managed to make itself dangerous over the 90 minutes. Inter got off to a strong start, with Lautaro and Thuram duetting for the Frenchman’s dribble and shot from the edge, but Scuffet’s intervention was careful on the dive. Cagliari initially well set up, but Inter continue to play their game and on the half-hour mark go close to the lead again: ball with the right turns by Calhanoglu for the head of Lautaro, who, however, sends high at the unguarded goal. Physicality and many duels in the middle of the field, in an intense first half but with few other flashes from both formations. At the start of the second half, however, it will be the Nerazzurri to unlock the partial, at 54′, on Barella’s deep cross to draw the head of Bastoni, good at directing on the second post the winning parabola that beats Scuffet and brings Inter ahead. Cagliari thus has to try to react, after conceding 1-0 and another chance happened at the feet of an inaccurate Lautaro. Nicola then inserts Pavoletti and Marin to increase the revs of the Rossoblù offensive engine. At 71′, however, the Inter double arrived, again on Barella’s precise service to find the deflection on the dive right by Lautaro, who after previous mistakes managed to break the goal fast that lasted since early November. Inter’s lead that would become a triple seven minutes later, with Wieteska touching his hand on De Vrij’s aerial deflection, causing the penalty that Calhanoglu converted by dispatching Scuffet. It’s the 3-0 that puts a heavy mortgage on the success of Inzaghi’s eleven, wise in the final management of the challenge that thus closes at the end of the two minutes of recovery granted by referee Doveri.
