Campi Flegrei, Musumeci “From the government not episodic but structured action”

ROME (ITALPRESS) – “The government’s action to support the population of the Phlegraean Fields in order to the recent seismic events has been for the first time neither episodic nor extemporaneous, the result instead of an accurate and consistent planning, structured from September 2023.” This was said by Minister of Civil Protection and Sea Policies Nello Musumeci during an urgent briefing to the House on the Phlegraean Fields.

“Since then, the government has wanted to turn the spotlight on the Phlegraean Fields area,” Musumeci added, “a territory burdened by an exceptional overlap of natural, volcanic, seismic and bradyseismic risks, a risk to which 100,000 residents are exposed every day.

“In that area, careful and responsible urban planning should have prevented all building activity since the postwar period,” Musumeci stressed.

“As of yesterday’s date, firefighters had had about 1,260 requests for action, of which 1,020 have already been carried out. We are always grateful to the firefighters,” Musumeci explained. “This activity resulted in the issuance of evacuation orders by the mayors with the evacuation of 163 households totaling 388 people.

“In response to the regional request, a state of mobilization of the National Service of Civil Protection has been declared for the territories of Pozzuoli, Bacoli, Bagnoli and part of the territory of the Metropolitan City of Naples,” Musumeci further said.
