BERLIN (GERMANY) (ITALPRESS) – The driver of the car that crashed into the crowd in Mannheim has been arrested. This was reported by the “Bild” newspaper, pointing out that all road junctions leading out of the city are controlled by law enforcement. According to initial information relayed by German media, a black SUV sped down the pedestrian street leading to Paradeplatz, hitting passersby.
It is 2 killed and 14 wounded is the provisional toll of what German media say is still unclear whether it was an accident or an attack. The injury toll has thus fallen from the initial count of 25 people. According to confirmation by the minister of the interior of the federal state of Baden-Wurttemberg, Thomas Strobl, the driver of the car, a 40-year-old German resident of Rhineland-Palatinate, has been arrested.
Law enforcement officials prohibited passersby from approaching the area of the accident, which is located in the pedestrian zone leading to Paradeplatz. The driver
of the black SUV thrown into the crowd was arrested, again according to local police reports.
