Celebrated 30 years of ASI, Barbaro “Very large family”

ROME (ITALPRESS) – Big party at the Auditorium della Conciliazione in Rome to celebrate 30 years of ASI, Associazioni Sportive e Sociali Italiane, a sports promotion body recognized by CONI that brings together amateur sports associations, sports clubs, cultural clubs and third sector associations, contributing to their sports, social, recreational and cultural activities. It is a “family that has become very large, almost a small ministry,” as President Claudio Barbaro called it: in fact, there are more than 1.4 million members, including athletes, managers, coaches and referees, for an organization that promotes 652 sports disciplines in the territory. And “the demand continues to grow, which means that we must equip ourselves to respond to this very great need for sport that is unrelated to competitive logics,” added Barbaro, who on the future of the body explained, “We must never feel satisfied with the results obtained, but must always strive for improvement. This we owe above all to the people who continue to give us confidence.”
An evening full of guests, starting with major Italian sports personalities: “The presence of the institutions is a source of pride and political satisfaction, because it means that grassroots sport and top sport meet, they are two sides of the same coin,” Barbaro concluded.
Among the guests was the president of CONI, Giovanni Malagò: “My presence is a must, because ASI has done a lot for our world. It is a relatively young body, but whose track record is absolutely first-rate, with impressive numbers.” And speaking of Coni, Mario Pescante, the former president who already recognized ASI in its foundation year, 1994, spoke during the evening: “Any Coni president would have done that. There were political difficulties and from the bodies themselves, who did not want a new one, but I chose the ASI also because other promotion bodies had disavowed agonism.”
Speaking in a video message, Minister for Sport and Youth, Andrea Abodi, praised President Barbaro, “who still today with passion, competence and love for sport and for ASI continues to lead this community of women and d’men who have made the history of social sport.” Figc President Gabriele Gravina, on the other hand, commented, “Best wishes to ASI: together towards the future not only for sports but also for its social activities.”
