CGIL, with Futura 2025 kicks off labor and citizenship referendum campaign

ROME (ITALPRESS) – On Friday, April 11 and Saturday, April 12 at the Milan Chamber of Labor and live streaming CGIL will kick off its campaign ahead of the referendums on labor and citizenship with Futura 2025, two days to voice proposals, sharing, confrontations and ideas on the issue of every citizen’s participation in political life.

“Voting is our revolt” is the title chosen for this edition, because in a democratic system, participation is the most powerful tool for changing things. In fact, Futura 2025 will be a space that wants to emphasize how politics is not just party politics, but is also and especially articulated through participation from below.

Gathering the points of view of those who care about the country and those who do not feel represented, Futura aims to raise awareness of the importance of the referendum as a tool for involvement in deciding tomorrow together. Making their voices heard and confronting each other will be personalities from the worlds of culture, entertainment, information and civil society: distant visions that meet and dialogue to put the citizen and the worker at the center.

Saturday, April 12, will see the event arrive in more than 120 Italian piazzas to which Paris and Brussels will also be added, connecting with Milan to share ideas and launch initiatives from the territories.

In today’s interview with Corriere della Sera, CGIL Secretary Maurizio Landini said, “With the vote on June 8 and 9 we can change things, creating the conditions for a wage based on stability and job security.” “It is not easy in a country where by now half of the voters do not go to the polls,” Landini continued, “but there are all the conditions to reach a quorum. The referendum vote is not a vote that delegates but allows for a direct decision. If we win, the day after the vote two and a half million people will obtain Italian citizenship, workers in companies with more than 15 employees will get back Article 18 of the Workers’ Statute against layoffs, and liability for accidents on contracted work will be extended to contractors.”
