Chile, José Antonio Kast elected President: “We will return to be free from crime”

SANTIAGO (CILE) (ITALPRESS) – José Antonio Kast, exponent of the extreme right and open supporter of Augusto Pinochet, was elected president of Chile: at the conclusion of an electoral campaign dominated by issues such as security, immigration and crime, at his third attempt Kast clearly beat the candidate of the left coalition, Jeanette Jara, with over 58% of the votes.

“Chile will return to be free from crime, free from anguish, free from fear,” said the 59-year-old Kast in his first speech as elected president. “Criminals, delinquents: their lives will change. We will look for them, we will find them, judge them and then lock them up”, added Kast, admirer of Donald Trump, who, during the campaign, described Chile as a country that was sinking into chaos and insecurity.

MELONI SI CONGRATULA “RELAZIONI BILATERALI ANCORA PIU’ FORTI”

“I congratulate my friend Josè Antonio Kast for the great success achieved in Chile’s presidential elections. Italy and Chile are friendly nations and I am sure that our bilateral relations will become even stronger, starting with issues such as economic cooperation and contrast to irregular immigration. Good work!” He writes on X the President of the Council, Giorgia Meloni.
