TURIN (ITALPRESS) – A memorandum of understanding between the Piedmont Region, with the involvement of the City and Metropolitan City of Turin, and the Region of Attica to promote tourism between the two territories, including through the identification of specific European Union resources, and the strengthening of connections with a new direct air route between Turin Caselle Airport and Athens Airport.This is the result of the meeting that took place this morning between the President of the Region Alberto Cirio and the Mayor of Turin Stefano Lo Russo, in Athens for the opening ceremony of the Special Olympics Games, with the Minister of Tourism of Greece Olga Kefalogianni. “Strengthening connections and fostering the development of tourism between Piedmont and Greece is a common goal that we can also achieve through the use of European funds, which in the new programming can be used to foster relations between non-bordering regions. We shared the importance of re-establishing the Turin-Athens direct flight, to serve the many Piedmontese who come to Greece, but also as a possibility of interchange considering the numbers of Greek tourism in Piedmont: 25 thousand presences per year, located in areas with high spending therefore with a substantial potential for growth,” says Piedmont Region President Alberto Cirio.”Reopening a direct air route between Turin and Athens is a concrete goal for the development of tourism and the growth of relations between the two countries and our territories, which are rich in history and culture, as well as an opportunity for the growth of our airport and the city’s direct connections,” stresses the mayor of Turin, Stefano Lo Russo.The Turin-Athens direct flight was active in the summer of 2018 and in the summer of 2022.
