ROME (ITALPRESS) – “In Dubai we set ambitious goals, capacity to generate renewable energy and double energy efficiency by 2030. Getting to these goals requires the cooperation of everyone, starting with the largest emitters and with adequate financial support. We are working to reach new financial targets, to reach an effective compromise, but there is a need for shared responsibility, there is a need to overcome divisions, divergences between emerging and already developed countries.” Thus Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, speaking at the ongoing Cop29 in Baku. On the fight against climate change, “Italy intends to continue to do its part. But it is equally a priority that decarbonization takes into account the sustainability of our productive and social systems. We must protect nature with humans at the center. Technology neutrality is the right approach, as there is currently no single alternative to fossil fuel supply. We must have a realistic global perspective,” he explained. According to Meloni, “Our destinies are interconnected and we can derive great opportunities from energy connections. Like any COP, it is up to us to determine whether this will be a success or a failure. We know that we may not personally benefit from the results of the efforts we are making. But that is not the important thing. I am a mother, and as a mother, nothing gives me more satisfaction than working for policies that will enable my daughter and her generation to live in a better place,” she concluded.
