NAPLES (ITALPRESS)-The Public Assembly of Confitarma, entitled “The Ship in the Future,” was held in Naples at the Maritime Station and on board the Costa Smeralda. An entire day was dedicated to the ship, a mobile transportation infrastructure, leader of an industrial world that, in addition to cargo passengers and tourism, also embraces shipbuilding, the marine extraction industry, yachting, research activities, the fishing industry, and sports activities.”Shipping’s competitiveness means competitiveness of the whole country,” so President Mario Zanetti stressed during his report. “Confitarma has charted a course with ten strategic and undeferrable objectives, containing the concrete actions to increase shipping’s contribution to the country’s value creation: Consolidate the International Registry, a necessary condition and moreover not sufficient to ensure the competitiveness of the Italian maritime industry. Target the regulatory simplification of the national maritime system, the ‘de-bureaucratization’ of processes and the digitization of procedures. Affirm awareness that decarbonization is a global priority and so must be the measures that pursue it. Allocate revenues generated by the ETS to a sector-specific fund to financially support the energy transition. Revise taxonomic criteria to preserve the competitiveness of all vessels of national interest. Significantly increase Sea Modal Shift allocations. Intervene on our ports at the infrastructure, regulatory and financial levels. Protect the health and safety of our maritime workers at all times in the world’s seas. Simplify access to the seafaring professions and enhance the role of ITS Academies. Digitize services to support the activities of the sea, investing in the opportunities offered by Artificial Intelligence.” The Assembly was opened by a message addressed to Confitarma from Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, in which she stressed-among other things-that “The government will treasure the proposals that will emerge from the work. Confitarma has never failed to make its contribution, in a common project capable of making us increasingly proud of what we are and increasingly projected towards new routes. “The Ministers of Enterprise and Made in Italy Adolfo Urso, of Infrastructure and Transport Matteo Salvini and of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Antonio Tajani, wished to testify their closeness to the sector, emphasizing with their messages Confitarma’s daily interlocution with national institutions. With the decision to hold the confederal public assembly in Naples, in the presence of local authorities, Confitarma wanted to turn the spotlight on a city of the sea and not only on the sea…, because it is precisely from the territories that the country’s maritime legitimacy is built. “We want to take up,” stressed President Zanetti, “the path of a now-grown Italy that has become aware of its strength and is called upon to make choices that, as of now, will determine its future. “As highlighted by Prime Minister Meloni, “it is a choice that underscores the renewed protagonism of the South in the national context and beyond..”.Shipping competitiveness was the main theme of the entire day, which opened in the morning with a Networking Expo and four in-depth panels that gathered around Confitarma’s priorities for the country’s maritime cluster agenda. The focus of the discussion was on the ship as a strategic driver of competitive, geopolitical, social and professional development, with particular reference to energy, digital and bureaucratic transition, finance, safety and freedom of navigation on major shipping routes, territorial continuity, ports and infrastructure, and labor and training.
