MILAN (ITALPRESS) – An electric atmosphere for the first Olympics. The president of Cio Kirsty Coventry intervened at the Main Media Centre in Milan for a budget of the Winter Games in Milan Cortina 2026: “I had the honor and privilege of visiting different locations – he began – these Games were inspired, we thank the team of Fondazione Milano Cortina 2026 and Giovanni Malagò (present during the conference, ed.), thanks to all the volunteers: the atmosphere and hospitality in all venues were superlative, we were really impressed. The atmosphere was electric, in Brazil for example they suspended the carnival for the Olympic Games, it was something wonderful.”.
Coventry was satisfied with the media success achieved, but above all he wanted to emphasize the enthusiasm of the athletes found in the various places where the Olympic Games took place: “They are extremely happy, they are for the experience offered, we have made great efforts. We wanted to ensure the same experience in all locations, and it was really so. In Cortina the athletes said that the experience in the ceremony was even better than that in the stadium, they lived it together with people”.
“We will analyze the data after the Games, we will see what worked but were Successful Games, a new way to do things, they exceeded everyone’s expectations.” The number one of the Cio reiterated the importance of the Olympic spirit: “These games can unite people, I am convinced that we have a huge role to play, we must remind people of what values of courage and kindness are. We will continue to be neutral from the political point of view, the only way to ensure fairness in the playing field.”.
On the other hand, there were no positions regarding the decision of the International Paralympic Committee to re-enter Russian and Belarusian athletes to the next Paralympics with anthem and flags (Ukraine decided to boycott the opening ceremony of March 6 at the Arena di Verona and on wheel the Czech Republic announced that it will do the same): “Ipc is a separate organization compared to us, we are not involved in their decisions, we want to enjoy the last days of Milan Cortina 2026, we do not want to add anything to these decisions.”.
On the presence of Russia at the next Games, instead, there are no “discussions. We will consider everything, at the moment there are no plans for the future”, concluded Coventry.
