ROMA (ITALPRESS) – Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani has had a new meeting with some Ambassadors interested in the Middle East crisis. The Farnesina reports it. Following a drone attack against the Emirate Consulate in Erbil and continuing attacks against military installations, the situation in Iraq remains complex. The number of Italian citizens present in the country is very content and all those who have manifested the need to leave the territory have already been assisted and are now outside the country.
From the Ambassador to Colombo, the Minister has had an update on the situation of compatriots in the Maldives, confirming the return of at least 6,600 Italians both with charter flights organized by the Farnesina and with commercial flights. The ambassador of Italy in Colombo is ready in Malè and with Honorary Consul and the staff of the local Embassy continue their assistance to the compatriots, even with a constant presidio from the airport.
With reference to the situation in Lebanon, the conflict continues with raids spread throughout the national territory, including the southern periphery of Beirut, and almost 700,000 internally displaced. The Italian soldiers of the UNIFIL mission, deployed on the ground, continue the activities of patrol with enhanced protection measures. The Italian Embassy in Beirut remains fully operational, compact with the security conditions, to assist the compatriots. The Beirut International Airport remains open and operational, even for connections with Italy. The Minister closely follows the evolution of the situation in the Strait of Hormuz, where maritime traffic continues to record strong restrictions, with the passage of a few ships per day. A strong concern remains for the possible repercussions on the safety of navigation and the stability of energy markets.
