These values, pillars of our democracy, must never be taken for granted, and you, the women and men of Defense, safeguard them with dedication every day.” This was written by Defense Minister Guido Crosetto in his message to Italian military personnel on the occasion of National Unity and Armed Forces Day. “This year, the anniversary takes on a special meaning with Law No. 27 of March 1, 2024, which sanctioned “November 4” as a “National Day,” recognizing the irreplaceable role of the Armed Forces in the life of the country and the immense trust that citizens and institutions place in you,” Crosetto continued. Your service is not limited to border defense, but extends far beyond: from the Mediterranean Sea to the Indo-Pacific region, from Latvia to Somalia, your commitment to peace remains steadfast so that the wounds between peoples can heal. Through your work, you help build a more just and secure world, every day, without ceasing. You give voice to the motto chosen for this anniversary, “We are Italy,” not only as proud citizens moved by the spirit of belonging to the Fatherland, but through the love and passion you always inspire, proving that being part of the “Big Defense Family,” is not only a professional choice but a real life choice. “For this, today as always, our country is deeply grateful to you. Because democracy thrives on awareness, respect and dialogue, and You defend these values daily, protecting the institutions and the freedom of all. After all, without security, there is no democracy, freedom and peace. And the National Unity we are celebrating today rests its foundation on the sacrifices of many generations and the unceasing work of those who have dedicated their lives to our beloved Italy,” the minister concluded. “Therefore, I would like to address a heartfelt thought to the Fallen, who sacrificed their lives for the Homeland, and to their families, who preserve their precious memory.
