Czech Republic, Babis in charge of forming the new government

PRAGA (ECSC REPUBLIC) (ITALPRESS) – The President of the Czech Republic, Petr Pavel, today instructed Andrej Babis to form the new government in the country. The leader of Ano (Action of the discontented citizen), the populist party that dominated the urns in October with almost 35% of the votes, thus returns to the leadership of the country after four years of opposition. Babis will form an executive with two political forces, Freedom and Direct Democracy (Spd) by Tomio Okamura (who asks for the exit from Ue and NATO) and the small party of the “Automobiles for themselves”.

The 71-year-old magnate, owner of the agrochemical conglomerate Agrofert, had to wait for more than two months for the appointment due to the doubts of the head of the state on a possible conflict of interest with the institutional role. In recent days, Babis has announced that it has interrupted any operational link with its companies. The new government will officially take place next week, after the presentation of the list of ministers. Last October, the Conservative bloc led by the Babis party won the elections against the outgoing premier Petr Fiala. The result allowed his return to power as Prime Minister, who had already held office between 2017 and 2021.
